The site is located in Soilhull. From the south of the park a golf course is loacted which also has water stream from the golf course into the park which collects the water in a pond on the site.
To the south east there is alley leading to and fro from the park. Also there is a entrance to a school from the park.
In the west there is entrance to the park. The western and northern boundary has a line of houses of the local residents.
Design Brief : TO CREATE NEW INTERVENTIONS ON THE SITE AND DESIGNING A NEW PATHWAYS. TO ALSO CREATE MEASURES TO IMPROVE INVOLVEMENT WITH THE LOCAL RESIDENTS.
Interventions.
There are also new pathways leading to and through different parts of the park like the payhs to the woodlands, ponds, school.
Cleaning Process of the Pond.
Another design idea I had was cleaning of the shrubs and dead plants around the pond to make more inviting. After having discussed this with my group member, we agreed that this doesn’t link with our concept. which is interactivity and we are designing signage posts. Although I have still decided to include my development work.
Another idea i had was to include more dustbins for the animal waste requested by 2 local residents with pets but we decided that this doesn’t link with our concept idea therefore we won’t be including it.
More activities for the children.
Material Research.
The idea behind the use of material is to first use what is available on the site, light weight, easy to move and low in cost and weather proof.
Sustainability.
Here we have been looking into areas specific for signage and also the strengthened pathway destinations. These all are relevant in order to find the best routes which could help with the signage from an educational point. For example having specific signs next to the pond and other wildlife areas that may be particularly interesting.
3D model making software can help us get a realistic view of what areas we will be dedicating signage too. These areas will be further examined and individually linked to certain areas.
These signs could potentially use felled wood that is already on site creating a unique point about them whilst also providing great carbon neutrality
Self Reflection Report.
Langely Hall Park
During the colab module I have learnt various aspects about collaborating with people from different fields like interior architecture and architecture and during this I also came across their working style and challenges that come up while working in team n complex issues.
From the presentation of 4th March 2020 it has come to my mind that we need to work as a team and arrange more meeting sessions, so that we can create more ideas and interventions. I think the main challenges we are facing is to communicate our ideas in more resonating, easier to understand way for an outsider. So, I think we need to find ways and use ways that we use in Product Design, Interior Design and Architecture to communicate our idea more smoothly and easy. For that I think we can use paper, card models, 3D printing models or landscape models or knowledge of material and color scheme from Interior Design or Architecture.
During my site visit I also met residents and their feedback was to create more activities like games for children and other said they wanted more dustbin to dispose animal waste on the site. I think both them are relevant point to work on.
During the module I contributed in many ways like making models, sketching, making 3D models on softwares like solidworks. And also tried to make better understanding about my ideas and suggestion to the team members. There were also some queries and loop holes in the ideas, which I tried to rectify or find solution to. Working within a team was a challenging task since members were not open to ideas sine the beginning of the module and wanted to stick to only one solution. I think this due to the deadline pressure they had built.
But looking on a positive side I had an opportunity to learn about work ethic of my team members and I can take good points from them and try to implement in my working style. Also got a chance to learn about the architecture and its aspects which drwas my attention and may think about pursuing it my future studies or self initiated project to gain experience and learn new things.
As a team we have very good and strong ideas that would make positive change in parks for attracting local residents and people from nearby locality. So, we need to make our ideas more communicable, refined, detailed and more realistic keeping in mind the residents.
I also think we needed to be more cooperating, open for ideas, hold more productive meeting and share our work. So, basically despite having excellent ideas and concepts we should have focused on the execution and different ways to communicate our ideas.
