Material plan 1:

The production of transparent wood

Chemicals
- Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) (14GBP)
- Sodium Sulfite (Na2SO3) (6GBP)
- Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) (18GBP)
- Rubbing Alchohol (2GBP) (buy it at any store)
For the transparent engineering of wood, only a few simple chemical materials can be extracted, and the price is cheap, the extraction process is simple, the following link is the extraction method.

Material plan 2:

Narrative sequence
Through the exploration of the site, I found that there are many ecosystems in the site, such as woodland. There are a lot of different plant species going into woodland, but there’s a lot of confusion about these species.
The group’s idea is to closely connect with the theme of this course. Both my team members and I want to increase the connection between human and nature and lead human into nature. So initially, by talking to my team, we wanted to create different entrances to guide people into different areas. So I started with the bird’s nest as a source of inspiration and designed an arched rattan gate to guide people into woodland.
However, after our in-depth discussion in the later stage, we found that signage or education board are more needed in this site. So the four of us have different division of labor.
My main responsibility was to design the signage for the pond. So I used the shape of the water drop as my inspiration, and designed the logo of the water drop bottle shape for the pond. I have two different plans for the selection of materials. The first plan is to choose the material in the bottle body with transparent wood, which is a relatively new material and the hardness is hard enough, not only can support the wood on the bottle, but also more beautiful, but faced with two problems, how to fix the wood board on the top and how to make the shape of the arc, there are relatively big technical difficulties. My second material plan was to use basket weaving and bamboo. Not only is the weaving simple, but bamboo is a fast growing plant, and there is too much bamboo growing on the site, which can be harvested locally. It is also easy to make the shape and the price is reasonable compared with the first plan.
